two tiny birds
of the same genus
perched on a branch
one was throating the most
captivating call,
such a song
i have never heard
the other moved nervously
along the branch
tweaking its head
this way and that
as if vanquished
by its mate's
song
a tiny head,
ruffled throat
and beak pointed skyward
articulating
the ecstatic frenzy
of Being --
the universe
captured
in song
