a fool that persists in folly
does not become wise, obsessed perhaps
but never wise
yet i persist in attempting dialogues
with the illiterate, blind and deaf.
are somnambulists capable of reason?
clearly not, but they are capable of fantastic dreams
and other un-realities like imagining
freedom while in chains
or mistaking the real for an illusion
tho in my own world i vainly attempt
to interrupt ur tendency to depart;
surely u’d think i would have learned
never to clutch at permanence in a transitory world --
“stay,” i say in a world populated with dreamwalkers
impelled to follow a path which leads nowhere
shadows appear and disappear on my walls
they pass, bodies hiding from view
coming and going from/to nowhere
i draw the curtains and eliminate the distraction as u dress;
making love to a dreamer is yet another folly
like chasing myself running from uncertainty
i watch u going thru automatic motions dressing,
i prefer u naked but life is saturated with unfulfilled desires --
Buddhism’s appeal increases daily
each confrontation with reality tends to awaken
i plead for u to stay as tho my life depended on it
but u ignore my entreaties tho u always appear
when it suits you
so i abandon my attempts to persuade
the keyboard clicks frantically behind me,
it’s my monkey typing Shakespeare
but when i inspect the page only the word banana
appears endlessly --
however, my monkey is determined,
it took him years to master,
‘banana’
