Night Bird of Paradise
by jill Friday, Jun 12 2015, 1:52pm
international / poetry / post

.

at a certain time of the moon
a tiny wild orchid blooms
and reveals its female parts,
for what or whom
i have always wondered?

somehow the lover
escapes my
notice though little else
evades my eyes
and other senses

i know every human and
animal track, every insect
and plant but
have never seen
the lover this little flower
wishes to embrace

during the short season
of the orchid
an enthralling song
of a night-bird
is heard
though the bird
has never been seen

i finally realise
the little flower
seeks the song
of this bird
to transport it
to paradise
where it embraces
its secret lover
and returns to earth
to flower again
in the next season
of the moon
